Kenya Green Building Society(KGBS)
Our Role: End-to-end Design and Development Partner (UI/UX Design, Mobile App Development (iOS & Android), Website Development, User Onboarding Strategy, Connection Mechanism Implementation)
Project Goals:
- Enhance KGBS Visibility and Reach: Establish a strong online presence to attract new members, partners, and the wider public interested in green building practices in Kenya.
- Streamline Member Onboarding: Create a user-friendly process for individuals and companies to join KGBS and access member benefits.
- Facilitate Networking and Collaboration: Develop features that enable members to connect, share knowledge, and explore potential collaborations within the green building industry.
- Centralize Resources and Information: Provide a readily accessible repository of green building standards, best practices, events, and news relevant to the Kenyan context.
- Promote Green Building Initiatives: Offer a platform to showcase successful green building projects, technologies, and services offered by KGBS members.

Our Approach & Key Deliverables:
Phase 1: Discovery and UX Strategy
- In-depth Client Consultation: Our team held several workshops with KGBS stakeholders to understand their vision, target audience (individuals, architects, engineers, developers, material suppliers, government agencies), existing processes, and specific requirements for the app and website.
- User Research: We conducted user interviews and surveys (both online and potentially in-person within the Kenyan context) to understand the needs and pain points of potential KGBS members and website visitors. This helped us identify key user journeys and information architecture requirements.
- Information Architecture (IA) and Wireframing: Based on the research, we developed a clear and intuitive IA for both the app and website, ensuring logical navigation and easy access to information. We then created low-fidelity wireframes to visualize the structure and flow of key screens and pages.
- User Journey Mapping: We mapped out critical user journeys, such as a new member signing up, a company searching for sustainable materials, or a user finding upcoming green building events. This helped us identify potential friction points and optimize the user experience.
Phase 2: UI Design and Branding Integration
- Visual Identity Exploration: We worked closely with KGBS to ensure the digital platforms aligned with their existing brand identity while creating a modern and engaging visual style. This involved exploring color palettes, typography, imagery, and overall aesthetic that resonated with the green building ethos.
- High-Fidelity Mockups and Prototypes: Our UI designers translated the wireframes into visually appealing high-fidelity mockups for both the mobile app (iOS and Android) and the website. We created interactive prototypes to simulate user flows and gather early feedback.
- Accessibility Considerations: Throughout the design process, we adhered to accessibility guidelines to ensure the platforms were usable by individuals with disabilities, aligning with KGBS's inclusive mission.
- Design System Development: We established a comprehensive design system encompassing UI components, patterns, and guidelines to ensure consistency and scalability across both platforms.
Phase 3: Mobile App and Website Development
- Native Mobile App Development (iOS & Android): Our mobile development team built native applications for both iOS and Android platforms to ensure optimal performance and a seamless user experience on mobile devices.
- Responsive Website Development: We developed a fully responsive website that adapts seamlessly to various screen sizes (desktops, tablets, and mobile devices), ensuring a consistent experience across all platforms.
- Backend Development: We built a robust and scalable backend infrastructure to manage user data, content, member subscriptions, event listings, and other dynamic features.
- API Integration: We integrated necessary APIs for features like location services (for finding nearby green building projects or suppliers), payment gateways (for membership fees), and potentially other relevant third-party services.
Phase 4: User Onboarding and Connection Mechanisms
- Intuitive Onboarding Flows: We designed clear and concise onboarding processes for both individual and corporate members on the app and website. This included easy registration, profile creation, and guidance on accessing key features.
- Member Directory and Profiles: We implemented a searchable member directory with detailed profiles for individuals and companies, highlighting their expertise, services, and areas of focus within the green building sector.
- Networking Features: We integrated features to facilitate connections, such as direct messaging between members, the ability to follow companies or individuals of interest, and potentially dedicated forums or groups for specific green building topics.
- Project Showcase: The platforms allow members to showcase their green building projects with details, images, and contact information, fostering visibility and potential collaborations.
- Events and Announcements: A centralized calendar and announcement section keeps members informed about upcoming KGBS events, workshops, and industry news.
Phase 5: Testing and Deployment
- Rigorous Quality Assurance (QA): Our QA team conducted thorough testing across all platforms and devices to identify and fix any bugs or usability issues. This included functional testing, performance testing, and user acceptance testing (UAT) with KGBS stakeholders.
- Secure Deployment: We ensured a secure and smooth deployment of the mobile apps to the respective app stores (Apple App Store and Google Play Store) and the website to a reliable hosting environment.
Phase 6: Post-Launch Support and Iteration
- Ongoing Maintenance and Support: We provided ongoing technical support and maintenance to ensure the platforms remained stable and secure.
- Performance Monitoring and Analytics: We implemented analytics tools to track user engagement, identify areas for improvement, and inform future iterations.
- Feedback Collection and Iteration: We established channels for KGBS and its members to provide feedback, which we used to plan and implement updates and new features based on user needs and evolving industry trends.
Technology Stack (Example - Specific technologies would be chosen based on project requirements):
- Mobile App: Native iOS (Swift/Objective-C), Native Android (Kotlin/Java)
